Humane Society of Huron Valley
Mission Statement : HSHV's mission is to support the loving, responsible care of all animals in our community by: ensuring proper, nurturing care for the animals in our shelter, placing all adoptable animals in loving homes, reducing pet over-population, caring for the physical well-being of animals in our community, providing education and outreach to the community, and stopping animal cruelty.
Project Description: Volunteers will mostly be cleaning up after, playing with, and walking the animals. Volunteers can also choose to be either a Cat Comforter or a Dog Walker.
Paperwork/Training: All potential volunteers must first attend an informative, hands-on orientation session. The available times are on the application. You must also pay a $45 program fee at the orientation, this fee is a donation and also covers the cost of your volunteer t-shirt & nametag. Depending on the amount of people interested in volunteering with HSHV, the fee may either be fully or partially reimbursed by Circle K. After attending this initial orientation session, every volunteer must complete 5 weeks (10 hours) of Paw Level 1 service, which includes helping clean the shelter, doing laundry, and supporting the clinic and its staff. After completing the 5 weeks and minimum 10 hours, you can choose to take a specialized Dog Walker or Cat Comforter Training Session and begin working directly with the animals!
Time Commitment: Flexible and dependent on volunteers.
Days/Times: Times of the project are flexible and will be dependent on the volunteer or group of volunteers heading out to the Humane Society, but these are all of the hours that the Humane Society is open for volunteers to help out:
- 11am to 6pm, M-W
- 11am to 7pm, Th-F
- 11am to 5pm, Sat & Sun
